Cockroach Prep

Roaches are among the most unwelcome guests in the pest world, and their treatment requires expertise on our end and cooperation from yours. There are things that must be done by the resident to effectively combat a roach infestation. Please complete the steps on this list before our technician arrives and just as importantly, follow the steps outlined in our post treatment list. Following these steps is necessary in order for us to guarantee your treatment and more importantly, they are necessary to accomplish an effective eradication of the infestation.
Remove everything from the cabinets and drawers in your kitchen and move appliances, where possible, away from the baseboard for a minimum 2 ft. of clearance. Thoroughly clean countertops and all flat surfaces. Please be sure to remove all items from underneath the sink. We also recommend residents inspect the caulking around all kitchen cabinetry and caulk and seal any openings found. Roaches very often like to hide behind kitchen cabinets.
Remove everything from your bathroom cabinets and under the sink. Cockroaches love dark, moist areas and the area immediately surrounding your sink can often be a hotspot and must be thoroughly treated.
Clear off the floors in all closets as much as possible and move furniture away from baseboards, leaving a clearance of at least 24 inches. Roaches often like to live in baseboards and other tight, confined areas.
Cockroach treatment requires a minimum of three chemicals:
  • A pesticide that leaves a residual to kill adults.
  • An IGR (internal growth regulator) that stops nymphs from developing into breeding adults and can also cause eggs to be infertile or not hatch.
  • A gel bait in hard to spray areas that roaches carry back to the nest.

AFTER TREATMENT

  • Don't clean after treatment for at least 24 hours. Don't deep clean or mop floors for at least a week, two if possible. We want to make sure that the chemical stays in place, so during those two weeks just wipe down countertops etc with a dry cloth if possible.
  • Be extra careful not to leave food crumbs, diapers or any other sources of food for the cockroaches on countertops or floors. Vacuum thoroughly and often. Inspect all your sinks and plumbing for leaks, roaches must have water to survive.
  • Finally, BE PATIENT! You will often see increased roach activity after a treatment. This is a good sign that the treatment is working. The roaches are disoriented, their customary nesting areas have been taken from them and they are looking for somewhere safe to hide. It can take up to 100 days for all current eggs to hatch and encounter the chemicals, although you will customarily see a sharp reduction or elimination of a roach population within 30 days.
We advocate a second treatment within 14 days of our initial treatment so that we can gauge the effectiveness of the initial treatment and reapply bait and chemical as necessary. If you're not seeing any changes in roach activity 30 days after the initial treatment please contact us.
